Common use

The primary use of Modvigil is to manage excessive sleepiness associated with conditions such as narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift work sleep disorder. The medicine belongs to the class of central nervous system stimulants. It also has several off-label uses, such as managing symptoms of ADHD, depression, fatigue, and cognitive enhancement. These off-label uses are not officially approved by regulatory bodies.

Dosage and direction

Take Modvigil exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Modvigil is usually taken 1 time each day. Take Modvigil in the morning (when you wake up) if you suffer from daytime sleepiness due to narcolepsy or OSA. Take Modvigil 1 hour before the start of a work shift if you are taking it to treat work-time sleep disorders. You may take the tablet with or without food. Modvigil is usually given for 12 weeks or less.

Precautions

Modvigil may impair your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery as it can cause dizziness or sleepiness. Avoid these activities if you experience such symptoms after taking the medication.
Modvigil should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus. Breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before using this medication.
Individuals with severe hepatic impairment should take Modvigil with caution as dosage adjustment may be required.
Patients with a history of psychiatric conditions, such as depression or psychosis, should also exercise caution when taking Modvigil.

Contraindications

Modvigil is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to the modafinil or any of its components.
It is also not suggested for those with a history of left ventricular hypertrophy (an abnormal thickening of the heart muscle).

Possible side effect

Side effects of Modvigil: Headache; Nausea; Anxiety; Insomnia; Dizziness.

Drug interaction

Modvigil may interact with certain types of medications, such as antidepressants (fluoxetine and sertraline), medications used to treat Parkinson's disease (pramipexole), and certain antifungals (such as ketoconazole and itraconazole). Always inform your doctor about any other medications you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.

Missed dose

In case you forget to take your dose of Modvigil, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is near the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.

Overdose

Overdosing on Modvigil can result in symptoms like insomnia, restlessness, confusion, disorientation, and excitement. Should you suspect an overdose, immediately consult your doctor.

Storage

Store Modvigil tablets at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep away from children and pets.
